Packing material aisles look interchangeable if you don't know what each product is actually for. Each one solves a specific transit problem, and using the wrong material for the job is a common, avoidable cause of damage.
The basic building block of any move — single-wall boxes suit lighter items like clothing and linens, while double-wall boxes hold their shape under weight and are the right choice for books, kitchenware and anything genuinely heavy. Using a single-wall box for a heavy load is a common cause of a box failing mid-carry.
Best for individually wrapping items with a hard, breakable surface — glassware, ceramics, small electronics. It cushions against impact, but it isn't a substitute for filling empty space in a box; both jobs need to be done separately.
Plain, uncoated paper used to wrap items that don't need bubble wrap's cushioning but do need protection from scratches and dust — dishes, glassware being packed edge-on, and most kitchen items fall into this category.
Used specifically for furniture edges and corners, and for protecting the corners of mirrors and framed items — these are the most vulnerable points on any large flat or rigid object, and generic bubble wrap doesn't protect a sharp corner as well as a purpose-made foam guard.
Used to bind drawers shut, hold furniture pads in place, and keep loose parts (like sofa cushions) attached to the main piece during loading — not for cushioning, but for keeping things secured and together.
Reserved for large, high-value or oddly-shaped items — big mirrors, glass tabletops, artwork, and some furniture — where a cardboard box alone wouldn't provide enough structural protection for a long journey.
Specifically for electronics and IT equipment, particularly relevant for office relocations — it prevents static discharge from damaging sensitive components, something ordinary bubble wrap or paper doesn't address.
A separate outer layer used in addition to normal packing, particularly important during monsoon months — it protects against rain and humidity exposure during loading, transit and unloading.
