Cities
Moving costs in India vary more by distance band and home size than by which city you're moving from — a 2 BHK move covers roughly the same cost range whether it starts in Ahmedabad, Pune or Hyderabad, once you control for distance. This guide breaks the numbers down by those two variables, since that's how a genuine quote is actually built.
Treat every number here as an orientation range for 2026, not a quote — the only way to get an exact price is a pre-move survey, because volume and access at your specific address move the number more than any general rule can predict.
For a move within the same city, a 1 RK or compact 1 BHK typically runs ₹4,500-₹13,000 all-in, covering labour, packing materials and transport. A 2 BHK moves into the ₹8,000-₹18,000 range, and a 3 BHK or larger typically lands between ₹12,000-₹24,000. Smaller towns tend to sit at the lower end of each band; larger metros trend higher mainly due to longer drive times and restricted parking access, not because of a "big city premium."
This band covers most intra-state moves between major cities — for example Ahmedabad to Rajkot, or Pune to Nashik. A 1 BHK typically costs ₹15,000-₹24,000, a 2 BHK ₹24,000-₹38,000, and a 3 BHK ₹38,000-₹58,000. Office relocations in this band usually run ₹45,000-₹90,000 depending on size and IT equipment volume.
Beyond 500 km, distance starts to dominate the number because a truck is committed to your shipment for multiple days rather than making a same-day round trip. A 1 BHK interstate move typically costs ₹22,000-₹48,000 depending on exact distance; a 3 BHK can range from ₹55,000 to over ₹1,15,000 on the longest routes (1,000+ km, such as Gujarat to Bangalore or Delhi NCR).
Four factors do most of the work inside any given distance band. Volume is the biggest — a sparsely furnished 3 BHK can cost less to move than a fully-loaded 2 BHK. Packing complexity adds real labour hours: glassware, a piano, or a large wardrobe needing disassembly all add to the bill. Access — a walk-up floor without a lift, or a lane the truck can't enter — adds cost that a phone-only quote will always miss. And season matters: April-June and the weeks around major festivals see genuine demand-driven premiums.
A trustworthy quote itemises: labour and packing, transport, insurance, and any add-ons (vehicle transport, storage, dismantling/reassembly, appliance uninstall-reinstall). If a quote is a single lump number with no breakdown, ask for the itemised version before you book — it's the easiest way to spot what's been left out.
Bundle discounts are common and legitimate: booking household shifting plus car or bike transport together with the same mover often costs less than booking them separately, since it's one crew and one coordination effort instead of two.
A quote that comes in 30-40% below every other estimate you've received is rarely a sign of efficiency — in this industry it's usually a teaser price designed to grow once your goods are already on the truck, when your negotiating position is weakest. Insist on a written, itemised, fixed quote regardless of who you book with; it's worth more than the lowest number on the table.
